The Big Picture review

When a lawyer accidentally kills his wife’s lover he fakes his own death and buggers off to start a new life in a remote town as a photographer which is just swell for a while, until his success draws attention to himself.

The Big Picture is a nice little French thriller and Romain Duris is a great actor. It is a nice idea and the ending, although a little abrupt, is quite… nice, really. It’s nicely shot and quite gripping, too, but, looking at the even bigger picture, there isn’t a lot here that we haven’t seen before.

A solid, enjoyable film but not one that will appear in many favourites lists.

  • But is G Squad style over substance? Too slick? Too much slow-mo and Jay-Z? Can the director of Zombieland pull off a gritty gangster epic?

  • Jaysus. Yet another jaw-dropping trailer. Gangster Squad certainly looks exciting. And what a cast. t.co/fRrU7BKL
